About Us:
Eden Ixil is a beautiful 10 acre farm that is central to many of the The Ripple Effect’s programs. Our initiatives focus on sustainable development in 12 local villages, including:
- Building potable water systems and eco-friendly cooking stoves
- Constructing homes and schools
- Offering educational workshops on vegetable gardening, nutrition, and reforestation
- Providing seeds and seedlings for gardening, reforestation, and medicinal plants
- Conducting community trash clean-ups
The Eden Ixil site is located just outside the Maya Ixil village of Chel. In addition to the gardens and plant nursery, the site features a 4-room lodge, two adobe homes, and a stream with two large ponds. It serves as a hub for many community training activities. Village leaders are invited to learn gardening skills and participate in nutrition education workshops. The site also includes a large storage space where seeds are stored for distribution, plants are dried for use in herbal medicines, and materials are kept for construction projects.
