Garden Program

The Ripple Effect Inc’s Garden Program aims to help Ixil families facing poverty and malnutrition. If families can’t afford to buy the nutrition they need, then they can grow it. To this day we have about 400 gardens in 14 villages that provide women with a new opportunity for putting food on the table.

Garden Program

We hold workshops with trainings and seed distribution to groups of 10-20 women. We teach organic home gardening with permaculture inspired techniques for building soil and interplanting. At the end of the workshop gardeners receive seeds, starts, cuttings, and fruit trees. We evaluate each garden which is key for measuring the effectiveness of the program and helps us personalize our teachings and seeds. The Eden Ixil training center is TRE’s permaculture farm where we hold workshops, produce plants and seeds to give out, and do experimental gardening to test new methods.
